Fans of Indie Rock and psychedelic rock music were in for a pleasant surprise when Arctic
Monkeys released their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’. The
band garnered huge support in UK when their first single “I bet you look good on the dance
floor” went on to top the UK music chart. Based in Sheffield, UK, the band was created in the
year 2002 by Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Andy Nicholson. As far as the naming
of the band is concerned, the credit goes to Jamie Cook, the lead guitarist. The Arctic Monkeys

world.
Introduction
Arctic Monkeys posters essentially carry the pics of four band members, who have always been
its integral part. Alex Turner is the front man and the lead vocalist cum the lead guitarist. Other
members include drummer Matt Helders who also is a backing vocal, Jamie Cook who is the
lead guitar and rhythm guitar, and bassist Nick O’Malley who, like Helders is also a backing
vocalist. Nick replaced bassist Andy Nicholson who was the band’s core member since inception
but left in 2006.

influenced to quite an extent by musicians like Drake, Outkast or Aaliyah. The band
acknowledges the lyrical influence of John Lennon as well. Arctic Monkeys’ USP is its rapid
delivery of lyrics in string Sheffield accent by Alex Turner.

200. ‘Favorite Worst Nightmare’, the second album could reach No. 7 and the last album ‘AM’
